Professional Development in Difficult Economic Times

During the last decade, associations have focused on two primary strategies to achieve their resource goals: membership strategies and product strategies.

The reliance on non-member strategies, specifically education and professional development strategies, has created additional pressure on association educators to develop their activities as revenue generators – a difficult task in a challenging economic climate.

This issue brief introduces the challenges faced by association as they seek to increase revenue through professional development programs, as well as steps associations can take to address these challenges.
